The active ingredient, amoxicillin, is a bactericidal antibiotic of the beta-lactam class. It acts by inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Amoxicillin is not resistant to the action of beta-lactamases, which can hydrolyze the molecules causing the beta-lactam ring structure to open, rendering it antibiotically inactive.
Effective against: ß-hemolyticStreptococcus sp. included most gram positive bacteria (Strep. agalactiae, S. canis, S. zooepidemicus, S. dysgalactiae, S. suis, S. uberis, Bacillus anthracis, Actinomyces sp., most Corynebacter sp., Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, most Listeria monocytogenes), some anaerobes (Clostridium sp., most Fusobacterium sp., some Bacteroides sp.), some Gram negative aerobes (Haemophilus somnus), Borrelia sp., Leptospira sp., Actinobacillus sp., Haemophilus sp., Moraxella sp., Pasteurella sp..
Moderately susceptible are Actinobacillus sp., Borrelia sp., Haemophilus sp., Leptospira sp., Moraxella sp., Pasteurella sp., Proteus sp., Taylorella equigenitalis, Serpulina sp., Campylobacter sp., Enterococci, Rhodococcus equi, Enterobacteriaceae.
Following oral medication amoxicillin is rapidly absorbed. Maximum amoxicillin concentrations (between 1-2 µg/ml) are reached within 1-2 hours. Serum protein binding is low. Amoxicillin is widely distributed throughout the body. Amoxicillin is mainly eliminated via the kidneys in the active form. A smaller part of the administered dose of amoxicillin is excreted in the bile. Plasma half-life time of amoxicillin in chickens is approximately 1 hour.
MEDICAMOX is used in the treatment of Colibacillosis, Pullorum, Fowl Typhoid, Fowl Paratyphoid, air sacculitis in turkeys, Infectious Coryza, Listeriosis, Clostridium infections and secondary bacterial infections subsequent to viral infections or Mycoplasma based (CRD, CCRD) diseases.
Pharmacological dosage:20 mg/kg live weight/day
Practical dosage:20 gr Medicamox/ 1000 kg live weight.
For 1000 Lt drinking water:
0-14 days: 135 g Medicamox
15-30 days: 160 g Medicamox
31 days-slaughter: 115 g Medicamox
Treatment period:3-5 days
To be mixed into drinking water which should be the only water source available.
Must be prepared on a daily basis
